The juniper berry is the female seed cone made by the polar types of junipers. It is not a true berry but its odd roundness and united scales make it look like a berry. Some of the artifacts are used as species. Juniper berries are also used to smell gin. According to a FAQ document juniper berries are the only spice that comes from red pine.All the same,tar and bark from pine trees are sometimes thought as spices too.
