Currant

Ribes (Redirected from currant)



                         Ribes is genus of about 150 species of growth plants. They are domestic throughout the temperate top of the Northern Hemisphere. It is the only genus in the family Grossulariaceae.
Seven subgenera genus of Grossularia. 
                                                                   

Cultivation:  

                           The genus ribes includes the eatable currants (Blackcurrant, Redcurrant, White currant), gooseberry and various hybrid varieties. It should not be mazed with the dried currant used in cakes and puddings, which is a variety of small grape(Zante currant). Ribes gives its name to the popular blackcurrant cordial Ribena.
                                                                   The genus also includes group of plant  jointly known as the flower currants , for instance R.sanguineum.
